The result of the scanning process of Gimli, son of Gloin. This is the figure that started it all this photogrammetry voyage for me.
This was the first figure I ever got as a present. It is my favourite, by far and wide. Not only because of the awesome style and sculpting (which doesn't hurt), but because Gimli is and always will be my favourite character since Fellowship of the Ring came out.
You can fall in the superficial and consider him the comedic relief, but man, Gimli joined the fellowship without fear, when dwarves are made for the life underground. Despite that, he joined a trip that would make him be in the outside world, and in the company of an elf, no less! But he knew he could help, and not only that, he enjoyed the ride as much as he could. What an adventure to enjoy the battles, makes best friends with someone you hated, to stare in the face of evil forces and swing your axe, laughing at the face of death.
It's fair to say that I am biased. But when I was considering what I could do using photogrammetry, I just saw Gimli on my shelf and I just knew I had to build something around that scan. The entire Project Caradhras came to life because of Gimli. It just makes me happy to have been able to work on this project and refresh my fond memories of the movies.
Props to Mauro Santini, who sculpted this awesome figures for Weta Workshop. I want to keep the viewer in mind that this is a photogrammetry scan with imperfections and not the original model.
